Is there communication to the residents of our community? I have heard that there needs to be an improvement on open communication between the residents and council, I will continue to push this issue forward.
Development- the issues: I believe in Long Term Planning in a sustainable and fiscally responsible manner.
Are we protecting our landscape and environment? I have been advocating and working towards a greener/cleaner Black Diamond for many years.
Are we ensuring that Black Diamond is a place where we can Live, Work and Play? I have volunteered with many community organizations which believe this and will continue to do so.
Is council making decisions regarding sustainability- economic prosperity, social structure, environmental protection, cultural expression and accountable governance? Making decisions for today, which will not negatively impact the future.
On Decision making: I am committed to ensuring that due process is respected in regards to openness and transparency. I plan on making decisions for the community as a whole.
I have gained the experience and leadership skills to implement the vision of Black Diamond, that has been brought forward by community members.

Sharlene Brown served on Black Diamond Town Council from 1998-2007 and was elected as Mayor in a by-election in December, 2008.

During her time on council, Sharlene has sat on the majority of Town Committees and she has gained experience in all organizational aspects of our community.

Sharlene is a believer in life-long learning and is enrolled in a Public Administration degree program through Athabasca University. She has received certification in various conflict management strategies through the University of Calgary Continuing Education Department as well as courses in economic development and The Elected Official Courses offered through Alberta Urban Municipalities Association.

Sharlene has held a various executive positions in a number of community-based organizations. She is a very active community member. For the last 23 years she has been employed with the Government of Canada working as Client Service Officer and has held various Team Leader positions.

Black Diamond has been her family's home for 17 years and her family has grown up in this community.
